A week ago today we were fortunate enough to be invited to Timothy O'Tooles to join the American Outlaws in their watch party for the US Women's first World Cup match. We were able to run a great raffle during the match, giving away some excellent prizes. Thank you to everyone that came out and participated in the night!!! For those of you that didn't have the chance to do so...the opponent was Australia and the atmosphere was buzzing. The US women came out strong and took an early lead, only to be pegged back by the Aussies. Quality prevailed in the end when the US took the lead again and never looked back; seeing out a solid 3-1 win in their World Cup opener. Since that evening, the US drew 0-0 with Sweden and will battle it out against a decent Nigerian side tonight. Qualification for the round of 16 is almost certain (see attached article) but finishing on top of the group and bagging all three points tonight is a top priority for the US women. Timothy O'Tooles and the American Outlaws will be in full force tonight and after being there last Monday, I highly recommend you find your most American outfit and join in on the fun.
The same night that kicked off the World Cup for the US Women, America SCORES kicked off the 2015 SCORES Cup. We pulled names out of the SCORES Cup and have set our 3 groups for our annual corporate soccer tournament. The SCORES Cup is a great day of fun and will take place at Chicago Indoor Sports on Saturday, June 27th. If you would like to come out as a referee, a volunteer or simply just as a spectator, please contact AKillick@americascore.org.
The final Cup worth mentioning is the Stanley Cup! The same evening as the US Women kicked off their World Cup campaign and the same evening that we kicked off our SCORES Cup, the Chicago Blackhawks had a Stanley Cup finals game. Saadly (see what I did there?) they lost that match but last night, in Game 6, the Chicago Blackhawks brought the Stanley Cup back to Chicago!! Hopefully the USWNT can bring back some silverware from their trip to Canada!
Congratulations to the Chicago Blackhawks! A well deserved Championship for America's best city!
